Adventure Cycling for Humanity 2011 - Indonesia start date rescheduled

If you have been following this blog, you would have read that RA was considering a slight change in his cycling schedule. In light of the back-to-back tight schedules that took place yesterday (D-Day Minus 1), the late end to a long day yesterday (or early morning), a last minute request for a farewell meal with a family member today, some unfinished preparations, complete purchasing gear needed for the trip & the need to have some "alone time" to get him into the right mindset for his huge challenge ahead, RA has decided that he will only begin his ride tomorrow.

A wise decision, sufficient rest & mental preparation is as important as physical preparation, it's also good to be completely ready with all the gear needed, & spend time with those close to you before embarking on a big adventurous journey.

So, the start of RA's peddle from Singapore to Indonesia will now begin tomorrow, Sunday October 9, 2011. The change in schedule will see RA cycling all the way from Singapore to Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia (the second stop on his planned itinerary) instead of stopping at Pontian, Johor, Malaysia (the initial first stop, now changed to lunch stop) as initially planned. Our dear bradder RA will be cycling a huge 160km in one day. This will be the longest that RA will be on the road for one day on his entire planned trip. By taking on this huge distance on his first day of riding, RA hopes to be back on track & time with his originally planned schedule.

RA's Journal Day 01, Saturday, Oct 8, 2011

The day of my departure is finally here, and as expected it was not easy to leave.

There's still gear that I was suppose to get but didn't get the chance to do so yesterday. Then, my last sister insisted that I have lunch with her, which I obliged, as a respect to her. This meant that I missed my initially planned 0730hrs (7.30am Singapore time) time for crossing the causeway from Singapore to Johor, Malaysia. The time is now 1305hrs (1.05pm Singapore time) as I write this journal entry email.

I need some "alone time" to calm down and focus on the long and tough journey ahead. I am seriously considering modifying my plan and schedule to cross the border early tomorrow and ride hard to skip my planned first stop at Pontian, Johor, Malaysia to head directly to the second stop at Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia.

RA's Journal, D-Day Minus 1, Friday October 7, 2011

The eve of my big cycling adventure was really "haywire". It was such a jammed packed, back-to-back day, that I wasn't able to have my "alone time" to calm down and relax before the big ride. This also meant that I had to miss out on meeting some friends before I depart.

Meeting with sponsors, supporters and lunch with friends, followed by a last minute dinner meet up with my eldest sister, and then a get-to-gather with a very close friend kept me out till midnight, disrupted my plans to get last minute stuff. However, putting it aside to spend time with treasured friends and family was well worth it.

Last check of my gear, some re-packing and laundry once I got home saw me hitting the sack at 2am.
